Mérida was founded as Augusta Emerita in 25 BC, the capital of the ancient Roman province of Lusitania. Located almost half-way between Madrid and Lisbon, it is nowadays an important historic centre, and the capital of the Spanish region of Extremadura. Merida is a beautiful city, full of history and amazing architecture. I stayed just for a couple of days but I wish I could have stayed longer. It was a fantastic experience to be in a place with so many wonderful ancient places: The Roman Theatre and the amphitheater, The Roman Aqueduct, the Circus, the Citadel, the Roman Museum… well, I just loved the city! The only thing I would suggest is to visit the place during spring or fall… the summer is extremely hot.

The history very interesting we enjoyed a walk through the town and the alkazar very much. But so unfriendly, we went into 2 bars to get a coffee and were ignored so after 20 mins we left. In one of them we had actually been shown to a table.
The parador was disappointing to say the least , service appalling!

One full day is the minimum to visit the top tourist spots. Buy a ticket for all sites - it has no validity limit, you can visit each site once, but it does not have to be even the same year! So no stress, you will want to return here anyway :)

We loved Merida!
We loved Merida! There is so much amazing history and it is all very easily accessible by walking. The city’s 17 euro ticket also makes it amazing value. The city is also quaint with cobbled stones, and it is a more genuinely Spanish experience, where most people don’t speak English and costa are more reasonable. I paid 1 euro for a takeaway coffee!

Probably one of the best antiquities museums in Spain. There is much to see in this city including a Roman bridge, the alcazar, the Temple of Diana and especially the amphitheater and arena. The crowning glory is the museum as well as a Roman house.

The city is very walkable especially along the river and aqueducts. If interested in history the city has done an excellent job at showcasing its Roman history including a wonderful Museum. The city is a living "open air" museum. A combined ticket for multiple sites in 16Euros/8Euros for Seniors. We visited 7 sites.
Perfecto. Everything is great. Professional service. Although the hotel and reception are not in the same building, it was an opportunity to pass through the colorful streets of Merida. Very nice staff worked at the hotel. We arrived earlier and everything was cleaned earlier for us. Everything is clean and comfortable. We also found coffee and water. Very pleased. Merida is great, there is a lot to see and we did it on foot. The hotel is right next to the Temple of Diana. Looks great day and night. We are satisfied and recommend staying here.
The Hotel was very well situated in Merida. The historical building in itself is beautiful, rooms are large and fairly comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful. Nice to have restaurant and bar service for late evening arrival and on the spot parking. Good bath products available.
Excellent location to visit everything in Merida. Astonishing amount of Roman sites to visit! Staff were great and the rooftop pool was perfect after a day’s sightseeing. Highly recommended!!!
Good to have parking outside the hotel. Within walking distance of the centre of Merida. Handy supermarket nearby. The room was clean and comfortable. Pool was welcome.
