A 13. században épült torony valaha a folyóról érkező támadástól volt hivatott megvédeni Sevillát: a Guadalquiviren óriási láncot feszítettek ki keresztben az ellenséges hajók megállítására. A lánc már nincs meg, de a csodás torony igen. Tizenkét oldalú alakja mintha a földből nőne ki, a tetején a kisebb torony pedig úgy emelkedik a virágszirom-szerű alsóbb szintek fölé, mint félig kinyílt bimbó.
