The 2 castles and the museum were worth the visit.
The 2 castles and the museum were worth the visit. The lake was beautiful.
We spent 2 nights and one full day at Fussen.
To minimze the uphill walk, stop at the Marien Brucke (bridge), then downhill to Schloss Neuschwanstein. Afterward, continue to walk downhill toward Hohenschwangau Castle and the Museum of Bavarian Kings. Once back in the main hub, you will have to walk up a hill to get to Hohenschwangau Castle. However, this hill less steep and is shorter than the hill which Neuschwanstein is situated.
Coming from Munich, you have to transfer at Buchloe. Our train from Munich was late arriving at Buchloe for about 8 minutes. If the train from Buchloe to Fussen did not 'wait' , we would have been stuck at Buchloe for a few hours for the next train. Not a good thing as it was getting late in the evening.

Füssen is a beautiful town, the cobbled streets and well maintained old buildings make it such a pleasure to wander around, along with really interesting shops and wonderful cafes. There is an amazing waterfall (Lechfall) about 20 minutes walk from the centre and great walks up into the hills around the town, all easily accessible. We ate delicious crepes in a bio-organic cafe, lovely meze in a Greek restaurant and beautiful grilled trout in a traditional Bavarian restaurant with wonderful beer! I've been to Füssen twice and would definitely like to visit again.

Really beautiful little town.
Really beautiful little town. Lots of interesting shops, great restaurants and very tempting pastries. The town is overlooked by the Alps affording spectacular views but there are also riverside walks and quaint streets to explore plus a Franciscan monastery and a castle. Plus Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein castles are a short bus ride or taxi ride away.
This was my third visit to Fussen and the first time in this hotel, for sure I would stay here again if I had to revisit.
Staff: All the people I came in contact with at the hotel were very nice, helpful and customer friendly; both the reception staff and the lady at the breakfast area.
Breakfast: The breakfast was excellent, with a great choice for both sweet and savoury. A bonus touch was that the lady brings you a coffee pot on the table and also asked if we needed more, such an excellent service.
Simple but nice breakfast, very friendly staff, authentic hotel design and gorgeous views. Very cosy stay, great location in Fussen just 10 minutes drive from the castle. Town centre is right around the corner for a nice stroll around.
At the heart of Fussen, the location is really convenient - just two minutes walk to the Fussen train station and bus station. Hotel staff is really helpful and booked the castle ticket for us.
Well-kept hotel in a green and quiet location but, not too far from Fussen’s center by car. A decent base to visit Neuschwanstein Castle from. The breakfast was ok.
