It took 700 years – and a visit from the Pope – for this church to be recognised as a cathedral. Perhaps the simple, compact structure of St Bartholomew’s was too easily overlooked, even if its 103-metre spire is actually the Czech Republic’s tallest. Head inside to admire the altar’s 14th-century marble Madonna statue or the panoramic vistas of Plzeň from atop the tower.

The apartment is really spacious, which we enjoyed. In theory you can fit 5 guests there. Literally on the main square, a lot of attractions a few minutes walking distance away and a view of the Cathedral of St. Bartholomew from a 4 windows. A restaurant and a club/bar without even leaving the building. A sauna, which is somewhat inconveniently located a floor above the shower, is still a very pleasant addition. Parking is offered in a parking house, which is considerably cheaper than A and B zones near the square.
