Salvador also offers some fun beach experiences. Praia Porto da Barra (close town beach) is nice. You can rent chairs and an umbrella for about $5 and nice affordable drinks and food are available right on the beach. It is very popular (crowded) on the weekends. Barra is a short taxi ride from Pelourinho. Fans of nautical history, don’t miss the well-done Museu Nautico da Bahia here. The new large shopping center, Shopping Barra, is located here with upscale fashions and restaurants – nice place! Try the tasty cheese (Queijo Assado) they roast on the beach. Sipping a caipirinha is a thing to do in Brazil and can be done in many favors.
For less crowded beach experience, we enjoyed the 40-minute ferry ride to Mar Grande on the island of Itaparica. The beach there has three restaurants where you can sit right on the beach with your feet in the sand and enjoy drinks, food, music, and take a dip in the ocean to cool off. The ferry is located in lower city near Salvador’s Mercado Modelo accessed by the Elevador Lacerda. If you are looking for fun Brazilian souvenirs from local crafts people, the Mercado Modelo is the place to go. Praia do Forte is a very nice beach located about 1 ½ hours drive from Salvador.

Location was great, right in front of the beach and easy access to walk around Barra Beach and light house. Beds were comfortable, breakfast very complete, staff was always very helpful. The pool was also great.
The house is amazing. It doesn't feel like a hostel, but more like a very comfortable home. It has spaceous, lightful living room, well equiped kitchen, terrace to chill. Staff is great, relaxed but always available for help. It's very very clean. It's located very close to the Barra beach. Definetely one of the best hostels I've ever been to.
The room was awesome and the view, stunning. I loved the breakfast and it was a 10 minute run from Farol da Barra, so you can jog along the Barra beach in the morning, it's pretty rad. The staff is very solicit, they give tips on where to eat outside and what to see on the city. Only thing I regret is not having more time to enjoy both the city and the hotel.
This hostel is just amazing! Not only members of staff are very friendly, they are also very knowledgeable of Salvador and helped me to make the most of my stay. Breakfast was delicious, the hostel is cosy, it's extremely clean, and it's a five-minute walk to Porto da Barra beach. It's so easy to get to the centre of Salvador by bus and very cheap to get an uber.
Great location a block from Barra beach where the lighthouse is, but close enough to the historic downtown with a 10 minute bus. Big open space in the lobby and beautiful high ceilings. Good wifi, clean, and a good price
I had a delightful stay with Sylvia and Marcos. They made me feel right at home from the moment I arrived. I then had lots of very interesting chats with Marcos. The room was quiet, comfortable and good value. The location is excellent, just a minute from Porto da Barra beach and seafront.
Excellent location a minute walking to the Porto da Barra beach. However, poor breakfast with little choices. Rooms are very spacious, but not well looked after.
Smooth checking, they invited English speaking manager to greet me. Big room, comfy bed. Both room and bathroom were clean. Sea view room. Tasty breakfast. Excellent location next to the Barra beach. There is a big supermarket just across the road. Plenty of dining options nearby.
