This isn't the first time we stayed at the Hotel Regina, and ad usual it was spot on. Lovely staff, great room, very clean and the breakfast has loads of variety for everybody.

Its a pilgrimage every soldier should make to remind them of the real cost of war. If you want to make the wreath laying ceremony get there at least 30 minutes before the bugle call or you will find yourself outside on the street and not in a good position to see the event.

Leave a Tip? Go. Not just for 'The Last Post', although if you're there at 8PM any evening, you owe it to yourself and the thousands of names carved into the Gate to attend, but also for the opportunity to stand a remember those thousands of young men who never had the chance to go home.

Attend the Last Post, it is incredibly poignant and moving as a reminder of the hundreds of thousands who lost their lives in WW1 - and the continuing respect shown by the Last Post Association and buglers from the Ypres fire service desrerves our continuing support.

Be sure to witness the WWI ceremony nightly at 8:00 (20:00) at the Menin Gate! Arrive early to get a good place to stand. It is commendable that the people of Ypres/Leper have made good on their promise to always remember the soldiers who died in that war. It was warming to see how school children are involved.

No matter what others may tell you - GET THERE EARLY. It gets you a good position, a good view and most important - it gives you a chance to relax and get into the sullen-mood needed to comprehend what the whole place is actually remembering. As a decendant from "the other side", I was moved by the ceremony and felt INCLUDED.

Great location, 5 mins walk to Menin Gate/centre. No parking, but parked at railway station rear carpark for free for the 2 days we stayed in Ypres. It was only 5 mins walk to apartment. Well appointed apartment, immaculately clean.
This is such a lovely hotel in an excellent location. The staff are all so friendly and helpful. Our breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you're going to Ypres. It's just literally round the corner from The Menin Gate. It was our friends 50th and they made sure they wished him a happy birthday. He had a card in his rom and a pastry with a candle at breakfast!
This is our first choice of hotel when visiting Ypres, the proximity to the market place, Menin Gate and the outstanding Captain Cook restaurant is ideal. Can’t fault the hotel - and the breakfast is good too!
This small family run hotel is ideally located for the centre of Ypres. It is a short walk to the main square and the Menin Gate.
My room had two single beds under the eaves in the attic. It was clean and the towels smelled fantastic.
The cooked breakfast although not huge was freshly prepared within your view and was delicious.
Sophie met us and showed us around her beautiful apartment. Very well stocked and incredibly clean. The bed was very comfortable and for a change for us - the Wi-Fi was superb. Location is excellent and is only a short 10 minute stroll to the Menin Gate and the Grote Markt in Ypres. Highly recommend and we will definitely return.
This apartment is absolutely spotless and has everything you need for your stay in Ypres. The walk-in shower is amazing. Bernard is an excellent host. I can't recommend this place enough. The Sweet Inn is without a doubt one of the best places I've stayed at whilst visiting Ypres. Just a few minutes walk and you are in the main square where there is a great selection of restaurants and bars, and of course The Menin Gate.
The apartment was clean, comfortable and well equipped with everything you could need. It felt really really homely and we enjoyed sitting out on the roof terrace making the most of the warm weather.
The location is great being a short walk to the centre and the Menin Gate, there is parking on the road outside or in a car park a short distance away. Sven the host met us on arrival and was really friendly and helpful.
We would stay here again if we go back to Ypres.

We loved the location of this hostel style hotel and we were able to park on the street free from 18.00-9.00 and pay up to 4.50 euro for 3 hours. The woman who ran it was very friendly and efficient. There was a lift to the upper rooms. There were numerous restaurants nearby and it was only a 5 minute walk to the Menin gate.

The medieval town was reconstructed after being obliterated in World War 1, and is very conscious of its heritage and the place it holds in the hearts of people from all around the world whose loved ones fought and often died near here. It is a centre for battlefield tours and the Menin Gate ceremony held each evening is unforgettable.

There are World War One cemeteries within walking distance. You could enjoy the lovely countryside by walking between quite a few cemeteries which are beautifully kept and so moving to visit. We drove to Tyne Cot the large British Cemetery and the area of Passchendale where family members had fought 100 years ago. We also visited Hill 60 and the Menin Gate with parking possible just within the city walls. Ypres is a very pleasant place to visit, explore and pay respect to those who fave so much.

At every turn you are reminded of the sacrifice of so many, but it is certainly not force-fed or commercialised; of course the nightly Menin Gate last post is the most fitting and reverent tribute. A short drive from the town is Ploegstraat with the recently unveiled UEFA tribute to the Christmas Football truce; our son left a ball there as a mark of respect (these are moved the museum on a regular basis). The café culture provides a delightful opportunity to people watch in the main square. Very relaxing place to stay and explore.
