This apartment hotel is an easy ten-minute walk from Southern Cross Station, where the Sky Bus from the airport ends. It's also a very easy walk to the CBD, and near any tram or train you'd need to get anywhere in Melbourne. I asked for a quiet room and got one (on the 50th floor -- couldn't hear any traffic noise at all). The decor is modern and minimalist; the beds were comfortable; there's a well-equipped galley kitchen, washer, dryer, and lovely views of the river and downtown. The gym was great and there is also a narrow but long pool, good for swimming laps.
You're near LOTS of great coffee places and bakeries and restaurants: I recommend Code Black Coffee, two blocks away.
