This Romanesque church is named after Santa Lucia, the local 4th-century martyr. The scene of her burial was depicted by the great Caravaggio in “Seppellimento di Santa Lucia." In fact, the painting itself has some recent history: in 2010, it was moved to a church in Ortigia while the Basilica was being renovated. Once work was done, the new owners of the painting refused to return it – leading to a legal battle that's been raging ever since!
