Holiday Inn Express Cape Town City Centre, an IHG Hotel, hotel in Cape Town

It's just a 15 minute drive from Cape Town International Airport to our lively downtown location, set on a tree-lined street packed with restaurants, art galleries, markets, cafes and bars.

Breakfast was very good and great set up and variety. Location in city centre was a different experience. A little off the main roads, but ok to get in and out. Room had a slight smoke smell and shower door broken and shower head didnt work properly.

FAQs about hotels in Cape Town

Cool, Colorful Cape

Between mountains and beaches, the 2nd largest city in South Africa mixes history, resilient modernity, and a typical laidback African character. From the top of Table Mountain to the colourful Bo Kaap quarter, and from the Victoria & Albert Waterfront to the modern business district, Cape Town blends multicultural influences and beautiful nature.

Known as Kaapstad in Afrikaans, its sunny weather and mild temperatures make it a perfect place to enjoy the large number of beaches that surround it. From Sunset Beach to Hout Bay, and from Simon’s Town to Gordon Bay, this city offers variety that suits all tastes. Whale and dolphin watching is a popular activity in False Bay.

Located on the Cape of Good Hope, the city was founded in 1652 by a Dutch trading company as a way-station for ships travelling to the East Indies. With the settlement process, all sorts of foreign plants were introduced, including the grapes in the famous Cape Winelands District, just outside of Cape Town.

Cape Town’s history does have some darker periods, and some of its memorable places from this time deserve to be visited: Robben Island jail, the City Hall from which Nelson Mandela gave his first public speech, and the statues of the 4 South African Nobel Peace Prize winners on the V&A Waterfront.

This was our third time in Cape Town and the local wine...

This was our third time in Cape Town and the local wine areas. We went for three weeks and could have stayed longer. There is so much to see and do. People are very friendly and helpful but like any other big city you need to be street wise. Local charities recommend not to give money to the beggars but offer donations to local charities. We did buy food at supermarkets if the person said they were hungery and wanted bread from the store. Never felt threatened. We bought a bus pass (like our Oyster card) and found it to be very cheap and efficient way of travelling. Bus services are excellent. Food wise, Cape Town has restaurants for every budget. We dined in 5* to 0* restaurants and enjoyed each one Exellent local wines, gins and beers on offer.

    Beautiful clean city..

Beautiful clean city..Lovely mountain and beach view from different parts of the town. Very good weather. I was there for a short stay and spent more time at the convention centre and had dinner at the beluga restaurant at V& A waterfront. We loved to take the city ride, but there was no time. City ride will be great for children and the fun rides at V & A waterfront if you are around the area.

    The Cape scenery is stunning.

The Cape scenery is stunning. We visited in spring so the weather was perfect. Since I was last there, the change for the better is noticeable. Drivers especially of the mini-busses, were much better behaved and we didn't have any problem travelling around. The food was wonderful and varied and much cheaper than in the UK. The city itself is looking clean and bright, almost no graffiti to be seen. Graffiti used to be a blight when I was there last but I got the feeling that all Capetonians have a pride in their city. We could not have had a better holiday.

It is a place that has different activities every day.

It is a place that has different activities every day. You can literally go for a sunset watch at a different location everyday. There are dedicated whatsapp groups for different social activities. You meet new people every day. I loved Camps Bay Beach, table mountain, Robbin Island (tickets sell out fast - book early), museums, the sunset view at Signal Hill, sunset cruising and the sky hide ride at Sky hotel! I loved the food at the Tigers Milk and Mozambik restaurant. It's an amazing place. Exploring the different languages and clicking sounds. The dynamic way of living of people. Cape Town is a go to.

A really nice hotel, located in a very central area perfect for exploring Cape Town and around. Sharon, Johnny and Jordan were fabulous hosts making the stay a real pleasure. It was lovely to meet them and to be made to feel so welcome. They offered great advice on where to visit and eat out. . The room was large and comfortable with great facilities and breakfast was super, served at a window seat looking out over the Waterfront and the bay. Really special. I would definitely go again
