FAQs about hotels in San Diego

The Art of Easy Living

Sweeping along the coast against a mountain backdrop, San Diego has easy living down to a fine art. Its wonderful beaches and mild climate make it a favourite spring break destination, and with over 40 city breweries, there are plenty of ice cold beers to set the mood.

The city’s most recognisable landmark is the Hotel del Coronado, a wooden Victorian beach resort, now a National Historic Landmark. The original Spanish mission, the first in California, has been relocated to the Mission Valley area, and Old Town San Diego still has many Colonial buildings and quirky shops. Also great for shopping are Horton Plaza and the boutiques in the beachfront neighbourhoods.

The city’s most famous attraction is its zoo in Balboa Park, a few blocks from San Diego International Airport. One of the world’s largest zoos, it is well worth a visit, as is the fantastic SeaWorld, home to several killer whales. To see wildlife in its natural habitat head to La Jolla beach where harbour seals rest, or watch whales in season from Point Loma Lighthouse.

Just over the border from Mexico’s Tijuana, San Diego has a distinctly Latin American vibe and a variety of accommodation encompassing apartments, motels, B&Bs and hotels. See Booking.com for the best deals.

We always enjoy coming to San Diego.

We always enjoy coming to San Diego. It has been our most frequent destination for short trips over the past 40+ years. A lot of the attractions are located close by - the Zoo, Balboa Park, Coronado Island, the Maritime Museum on the Embarcadero, Old Town. Just be aware that parking can be particularly bad at Balboa park on the weekends. Just head straight to the overflow lot across Park Blvd. by the San Diego Veterans Museum and take the tram to the Zoo or the Plaza.

Everything we in in San Diego was great! The areas we were in was very clean and beautiful. Didn’t care for the shut down of I-8 east for our trip back home, their signage was not very clear to follow around the detour.

San Diego is a fantastic place to visit.

San Diego is a fantastic place to visit. Vibrant culture brings many options for food and activities. The zoo, the beaches, Gas Lamp district and much more. Walk, Rent a bike, uber, taxi, ride-share or drive - however you choose to get around, the sights are many and transportation is accomodating. Plenty of hotels and vacation rentals with affordable to expensive options.

San Diego has a wide variety of attractions.

San Diego has a wide variety of attractions. The ones we like best are related to the port. There's a great harbor tour, and some lovely waterside restaurants. We ate at Point Loma Seafood, a fun, information fish restaurant on Shelter Island. The Gaslight District is excellent. This time we went to the air & space museum and were treated to a free docent tour which provided detailed explanations of the exhibits, and was very informative.

Surprising big, and incredibly comfortable, we came to San Diego for a convention and Town and Country exceeded all expectations. Hotel food is not normally great, don't expect great food here. It's decent, it's not horrifically overpriced, but this is not a foodies resort; not even the coffee was good and coffee is always good. This resort is immaculate and well-designed for its guests. The Monkey Bar was adorable.

The property was in a good location, 5 kms from the main attractions, but it is very easy to get around San Diego. Even with public transport. The breakfast was excellent, even the coffee was great quality, which unfortunately wasn’t the case with other hotels we stayed in US during our vacation. Staff was very friendly throughout our stay. This hotel was very good value for money, parking is free.

The room was very spacious and clean. The breakfast is ok but nothing special. The hotel itself is situated on the main road and has an adequate bus connection to the Old Town Transit Centre where this is the main transport of buses, trams and the Amtrax train. If you prefer to walk from here to the hotel, (which I did) took me 19 minutes. The centre of San Diego takes only a few minutes by tram.

We like the location when we don't want to stay inside San Diego. Loyal price, THERE IS YOUTUBE (I don’t know why, but few hotels take into account that guests may not know English (like my husband) and may want to watch YouTube in their language. We really like the Lady at the reception, her name is Linda and she is very nice!
