Kaohsiung is a big area and I needed a few days to explore it. There are a lot of places to see, although during my visit the Lotus lake and nearby temple were closed for construction. A few weeks prior to my visit, a huge typhoon hit Kaohsiung and it was evident with the trees and the parks that they were still trying to clean up. But the Taiwanese move very fast so transportation and businesses were up and running in no time.
Transportation was very efficient and you can get anywhere using their MRT system. Also, the people are really nice. Not everyone could speak English, and sometimes, they might hesitate to talk to you, but everyone I asked made an effort to give me instructions or at least point me to the right direction. For a first time solo traveller like me, that is something I would always be grateful for. Even the middle school students would guide me and ask me to follow them just to show me the right station that I needed.
Also, as with Taiwanese cuisine, food is good and healthy. There is always salad and dessert that's not so sweet :) It took time for me to adjust to the taste since I come from a country that likes MSG,but once I got used to it, I loved it - I hope tourists try the beef noodle soup, which was believed to originate from Kaohsiung.
Kaohsiung is not like Taipei where a lot is happening every hour of the day. Kaohsiung can be quiet at times, and I think that's a good thing, too. I highly recommend it to people who just need a breather from the busy urban life.

City of art and culture so lots to do an see.
City of art and culture so lots to do an see. Art galleries and museums are excellent, lots of street art and sculptures, VR and cinema plus live music. Public transport is cheap, reliable and frequent. Downside is that most restaurants close at 8pm and good ones are elusive. Very few good bars.

Kaohsiung is a great Harbor City with many things to see and do. It is a port city and so sea food is plentiful although there are many other fine foods to choose from... first day we ate in a fine Teppanyaki Restaurant... last day in Kaohsiung I had a burger while my wife ate bar-b-q squid down by the harbor... and nobody makes cakes like the Taiwanese
Summertime is very hot and humid in Kaohsiung... so be prepared for some heat from September onward.

Best life city I ever been, the whole city wasn’t as Taipei crowded and bustling but absolutely can tell you scooters are everywhere😂! Look around the city with many transportation options, so don’t worry. Another recommended thing is searching local foods are absolutely worth, in somehow most of them are hidden gems, you never try you never know.

Kaohsiung is bigger then we expected and am glad we had decided to rent car upfront from the airport. We stayed near the harbor, which was beautiful. We were there for a concert at the National Stadium Kaohsiung which was more than 20 minute drive so the second day was all about the concert and not enough time spent on the city itself. We were also rained out. We spent a few hours and lunch at Cijin Sunset Bar on Cijin island on our way into the city from the airport. We did not know that we could rent electrical buggies - that would have been very enjoyable to explore the Cijin Coast Park. We walked around the As we were rained out most of the time - we managed to explore a little Pier 2 which was very nice. The next round we will definitely do more of the historical sightseeing. In my opinion - to enjoy food and sights and shopping - you should have at least 2-3 days not including travel time. And best seen with a car so you can stay a few hours in that area and explore different areas of the town.

Loved Pier 2 and Pier 2 Dayi!
Loved Pier 2 and Pier 2 Dayi! The Dome of Light at Formosa Boulevard Station was also very impressive. Having an Easycard also made getting around the city quite convenient. The outlet shopping was great!
We didn't go to Lotus Pond and Fo Guang Shan Buddha this time as we already went there during a previous trip. This time was more of exploring the city itself.
Kaohsiung is a good value for money destination for a short weekend jaunt.

The breakfast options are varied and well-prepared.
There are free laundry facilities on the upper floor.
The location, near Formosa Boulevard Station and the night market, is excellent. Transport from the hotel to all of Kaohsiung is very simple.
The location is quite close to Kaohsiung station (not the high speed station) and there is also a metro stop there. The hotel had good amenities such as free coffee, breakfast and snacks throughout the day.
The room was clean and the WiFi was fast.
Very nice and clean hotel in not so clean district. Great value for money, close to combinis and night market. In walking distanc to train station and mainly high speed train station of Kaohsiung.
Very fine new hotel with a great location, easy underground parking and good window view making this hotel ranks one of the best 5 star hotels in Taiwan.
