The hotel was lovely, light & airy, very nicely decorated, extremely good atmosphere.. The rooms were modern, very clean and very comfortable, the bed and the linen was sumptuous, towels and dressing gowns were soft and fluffy, lots of attention to detail. The staff were really friendly and so helpful. Location was excellent, right on the promenade of the gorgeous long beach, spolit for choice of all the restaurants, bars, lounges and cafes and close to the town centre and museums There were parking spaces for a very reasonable fee behind locked gates for hotel guest & bikes available too.
Overall a wonderful stay and definitely a hotel we will return to. :)
Close to the beach and the town centre, l'Hirondelle provides comfortable accommodation and a warm welcome in the heart of the seaside resort of Dunkerque.

Beautiful city, very quiet (at that time of the year?), free buses for everybody (so there is not much traffic in the town centre, which we appreciated. Lots to offer: a cinema, shops, restaurants, a historical part to see, really convenient to walk and the beach is truly beautiful and very clean. Conveniently situated if you want to visit Belgium (you can go on the free bus to Adinkerke, a 15 minute walk to De Panne).
We recommend a visit at the War museum (a hour and a half is enough) and a walk on the beach. We had food at Chic Frites and enjoyed free games. The prices there are quite sensible.

We travelled to Dunkirk to visit the WW2 evacuation beaches.
We travelled to Dunkirk to visit the WW2 evacuation beaches. We stayed for 2 nights so that wehad a full day and it was perfect to give us time to wander around with no rush. If we had had time it would have been nice to maybe stay an extra night and pop into Belfium.

The Port Museum (Musee Portuaire) was very interesting and give a great insight into the history and development of the port both past and present. A good number of old master seascapes and some model ships were exhibited. Another good and interesting museum is the one on Operation Dynamo - the Battle of Dunkirk and the subsequent evacuation. This was very thought -provoking. The beaches (linked to the evacuation) at Malo-les-Bains are wonderful.

Small city, not too much to do but just enough.
Small city, not too much to do but just enough. Able to spend time on the beaches and go to museums. Many options to go out for a drink or dinner, highly recommend eating at Moon shiners. Centre is quite compact so everything is walking distance.

For war history enthusiasts, Dunkerque is a must!
For war history enthusiasts, Dunkerque is a must! It's steeped in history.
Lots to see and within a relatively small radius.
Very easy to get further afield too, with Bruges being just an hour away aswell as easily accessible to Lille and other places of interest.
Excellent ferry service with DFDS and only 30 minutes drive to the centre.
There are street markets and some lovely bars and restaurants. Our favourite became Woll Street, with the fabulous Julian and team on hand, very friendly, great menu, outside and inside seating and a happy hour for drinks at the weekend. They even made a dish which wasn't on their menu for me and allowed me to buy some delicious pastries at a nearby bakery and eat them at the bar!
Buses are free and an excellent service.
The tourist information office is located in the beautiful Belfry and they are super helpful.

The bed was very comfortable. I had one of the best sleeps for long time. The room itself was clean and comfortable. The staff was super helpful and friendly. The hotel is right beside the station, which is convenient if you are taking early morning train.
Very friendly receptionist, made a good restaurant recommendation for dinner, very accommodating for leaving bicycles in the hotel conference room, good value for money, close walk to town centre
