Having traveled extensively around the globe, I can confidently say that Grand Hyatt Chengdu stands out as one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at. The service here is impeccable—accommodating, courteous, and genuinely friendly. A special shoutout to Zoey Zhang (I hope I got her name right!) and the wonderful lady who helped us with our check-in—your warmth and professionalism left a lasting impression.
Our suite was absolutely fantastic—clean, spacious, and thoughtfully prepared with a personal note from the hotel, which we truly appreciated. It’s little touches like these that make a stay memorable.
And let’s talk about the location—it’s unbeatable! Nestled in the heart of the city, the hotel is surrounded by a plethora of shops, from local delicacies to luxury brands. It’s incredibly convenient and adds so much to the overall experience.

I visited the Shun Feng Ya Yun Teahouse, the Du Fu Cottage, the Wuhou Shrine, The Wangjianglou Park, and the Chengdu Museum. I had an absolute blast at the opera considering I managed to snag front row tickets to the show. Face changing is such a Sichuan treat, highly recommend the experience. I booked an opera makeup photoshoot and it's pretty fun to try on the performers' outfits. Du Fu Cottage and Wuhou Memorial make for very lovely walks this time of year, and both sites are rich in historical importance.
Wangjianglou Park had a small area dedicated to the poet Xue Tao that I enjoyed, and a small museum where you could see some artifacts from Tang Dynasty and/or specific to paper making. The Chengdu Museum had a temporary museum on Sherlock Holmes that I unfortunately didn't get to 100% complete since there was an interactive game that took about an hour- but renting a Holmes outfit was very fun. I loved the paper puppets and the other opera puppets on display, you could really appreciate the artistry put into the craft. Great stay, would come back to Chengdu again.

We roughly spent 3 nights in Chengdu.
We roughly spent 3 nights in Chengdu. The must see is the Panda place which is about 2 hrs drive from the city centre. If you like Brand name Fashion shopping then you may need an extra day or two. We stayed at hotel Niccolo which is right in the heart of the shopping area in IFC where all the brand names are represented.

Chengdu, the vibrant capital of Sichuan Province, is a city...
Chengdu, the vibrant capital of Sichuan Province, is a city that effortlessly blends ancient culture with modern innovation. Known for its laid-back lifestyle, rich history, and tantalizing cuisine, Chengdu offers a unique experience for every traveler.
One of Chengdu’s biggest draws is its connection to the adorable giant pandas. The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is a must-visit, allowing visitors to witness these charming creatures in their natural habitats. Watching pandas playfully roll around and munch on bamboo is a delightful highlight. For those seeking an even deeper experience, Dujiangyan Panda Base offers the chance to volunteer and learn more about panda conservation efforts.
Chengdu’s cultural heritage is equally captivating. Jinli Ancient Street and Kuanzhai Alley (Wide and Narrow Alleys) are perfect for strolling, offering glimpses into the city’s rich history through traditional architecture, street performances, and artisanal crafts. Nearby, Wuhou Shrine provides a historical dive into the Three Kingdoms era, honoring Zhuge Liang and Liu Bei.
Food lovers will find Chengdu to be a paradise. As the birthplace of Sichuan cuisine, the city is famous for its bold and spicy flavors. A visit isn’t complete without indulging in a traditional hotpot, and numerous local eateries serve up classics like mapo tofu, kung pao chicken, and Sichuan-style dumplings. For an authentic experience, try a meal at one of the local open-air food markets.
Despite its rich traditions, Chengdu is also a tech-forward city. It’s easy to notice the convenience of mobile apps for everything from ordering food to booking rides. While this modern aspect is impressive, newcomers might find it challenging without some guidance. Fortunately, the city is known for its hospitality, and locals are often willing to help.

Go-to destination to visit the pandas at the Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, which can be easily reached by subway followed by a shuttle bus. We visited beginning of September and temperatures were reaching 40+degC so be prepared! Also make sure not to miss a day-trip to the SanXingDui Museum for a unique insight into an ancient Chinese culture, you can catch the shuttle bus from the bus station in front of the IFS complex. If you are looking for fashion bargains go to the wholesale Hehuachi fashion district near the North Railway Station. Take evening strolls through Tai Koo Li, Anshun Bridge, picturesque Jinli street and Kuan & Zhai Alley markets

Chengdu was for me the most likable city between Beijing, Chengde, Taiyuan, Pingyao and Xi'an: great food, nice down to earth people, lots of parks and nice monuments (I advise not to skip on the less known attractions for they are the most beautiful and interesting: yes, the research centre for giant panda breeding is nice and all but it's too big, to the point of being dispersive, I advise to take a cab tour and not to walk the walk. Instead, spare the time to visit a temple or a park more)

Stayed in the family room and it was really big and comfortable for three adults. The toilet was also very big spacious. Staff were nice and friendly and housekeeping was so efficient! The location was also brilliant, walking distance to People’s Park and Tianfu Square makes for easy access to the metro and a lot of shops and food options available. Especially for Muslim tourists, the close proximity to the Chengdu mosque makes finding halal restaurants near the hotel so easy!
The hotel itself was fabulous, super-modern and with all the facilities you need for an enjoyable few days in Chengdu. The breakfast was pleasing, with a variety of foods to suit most palates. The staff were mostly helpful, always pleasant, and the room was nice and quiet. Location downtown offers the perfect site for business, although it is slightly away from some of the tourist attractions… Panda visiting antics definitely requires personal transport or a driver/taxi.
It was a very pleasant stay in Chengdu at this hotel. Everything is made more pleasant when the staff is so warm and always willing to lend a hand with reservations or recommendations. The women who run the establishment are all great. The combination of the city, which we loved, and the hotel, located next to a pedestrian area with restaurants, shops and a couple of beautiful temples, made for a great stay.
Clean, quiet, well located. But I can’t understand how it got such a high rating here.
If it was half the price, I would give it a five stars
Tip: if you’re a 5 star non-Chinese traveler, in Chengdu choose Dorsett for the best bang for your buck or Ritz Carlton for the ultimate luxury at an affordable price.
It is one of the best hotels we have ever lived in. It is a very high-tech hotel on a street with a traditional Chinese culture. Supportive staff and customer-centric service.
