Montreal is the second largest city in Canada and the entry point to Quebec province via Pierre Elliott Trudeau Airport. Montreal truly has it all. Divided into East and West by Boulevard Saint-Laurent, there are several districts to the city, each offering a distinct atmosphere.
Downtown is best explored on foot, as you weave your way through skyscrapers and visit museums such as the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. In the winter you can steer clear of icy paths by heading underground to the passages of the Underground City, full of shops, movie theaters and food courts.
From there, the metro will conveniently take you outwards in any direction you might want to go, from the historic Old Montreal to the hip café and restaurant culture of the Quartier Latin-Le Village.
In summer, stay closer to the historic quarter and head outdoors in Parc Jean-Drapeau on the St. Lawrence River islands of Île Sainte-Helen and Île Notre-Dame. If the weather isn’t good enough for rowing, water-skiing and beaches then head to Montreal Casino.
Whether you’re visiting for festivals or fashion, gastronomy or culture, with over 190 hotels and B&Bs with Booking.com you’ll find your perfect home away from home.
It was a perfect spot for a long weekend. We arrived early on Thursday and left late on Tuesday. We may have stayed a day too long. We stayed in Old Montreal which was a great walking area. We attended the Italian Festival and took a few tours. I recommend taking a walking tour of Old Montreal early in your visit to get oriented and recommendations.

Driving is a nightmare-parking on both sides of the street, endless construction, bikers with no lights that weave in/out of traffic, impatient drivers, 1 way streets that change names with no indications, street signs/lights hidden in the trees

We are from England and are big francophiles, so it was a nice bonus to arrive in a French-speaking city where it was clear that our speaking French was a good thing. The metro system is very effective and we used it for getting around. We particularly liked the old city and had a very happy time wandering there. We liked the Chateau Ramezay but our stand-out favourite was the Maison St Gabriel (We took the metro to Charlevoix and walked from there). The visit showed us a lot about a part of Franco-Canadien history that we had never known about before. The guided tours are excellent and the place is a delight.

With Montreal, do your best to get away from the tourist areas and experience the food / drinks and shopping that the locals do. Montreal is a little bit gritty and has an edge to it. That is the real Montreal and you will have a great unique experience if you can find that!

Great location, very nice and competent staff, newly built hotel so spacey room with washrooms and social corner, plus large common areas to work / cook / eat / relax. Each bunk bed as 2 electric plugs, a light, under the bed locker, storage around the bed, and curtains to sleep nicely. Plus the WiFi is really good! Close to a lot of things in Downtown Montreal. So far the best Hostel in that city, especially at that price!
