This was our second visit to Trier so we were able to visit sites we had missed first time round. It is very easy to walk around the city and take in all the historic Roman sites. There are also plenty of places to eat.

Trier dates back to the Roman era, and it has been argued (but not agreed) that it is the oldest still-extant city in Germany. There are a number of interesting Roman excavations, including a bath and a amphitheatre, as well as the Porta Nigra city gate.
In addition to being the birthplace of Karl Marx, Trier offers plenty of shopping and dining options and, being located in the Moselle region near the Luxembourg border, there's plenty to experience.
When hunger strikes, head for the Kartoffel-Kiste restaurant, and try the "Kappes Teerdisch", a local speciality composed of mashed potatoes mixed with sauerkraut (which is a lot more delicious than it sounds).

Lovely pleasant city with ambience and lots of history.
Lovely pleasant city with ambience and lots of history. Amazing city space where one can enjoy taking a walk or relaxing in a park. I don't know how some people spend only 1 day or half a day in Trier. There're so many museums in Trier and around the city that a minimum of 3 days is needed to see most of the places of interest. I spent 8 days in Trier and would gladly return. If I had more time in Trier, I would explore more of Luxembourg. I am glad I found accommodation in a quiet neighbourhood, away from the center.
I have known the Kockelsberg for sixty years, so a return visit kindled childhood memories. In those days my family and I made the long walk up from Trier through the woods and emerged by the path that can still be made out (I doubt whether it is used any more) arriving below the terrace. The position of this hotel is superb and it deserves to succeed. The view is magnificent.
Good design hotel at the bank of the Moselle. Closeby the center of Trier (15 minutes walk). Nicely decorated rooms (not all apparently are renovated already I read) and breakfast room with view on the river. Excellent shower. Good fresh breakfast. Friendly staff. Free WiFi in breakfast room and lobby. Dedicated hotel parking at the other side of the street.
Great location about 20 minute walk to town. Quite a traditional hotel. Room very cosy and traditionally decorated. Bathroom was good. Ate in the restaurant bar and food was good. Great parking spaces. The town of Trier was lovely and we spent a few hours looking around.
The room was large and spotlessly clean. Although I had to check in and check out when reception was closed, I had no issues. The hotel is well located for exploring Trier - I saw all of the main sites just walking around.
Excellent place to explore Trier. The hotel is located just near Porta Nigra, the main city attraction. Very nice and helpfull staff. Free of charge parking is offered. I recommend this place.
