On this informative, self-guided tour, you’ll explore the Donkin Reserve and surrounding areas to learn about the establishment of Gqeberha – previously known as Port Elizabeth – in the early 19th century.
Your audio tour will lead you to a variety of key sites as you learn about the British government’s 1819 immigration scene which created a port town with a sense of British culture and identity. You’ll pass sites like City Hall where merchants used bring their ox wagons to trade ivory, hides and wool, the Donkin Lighthouse, the Old Post Office building, Fort Frederick, the main library, Vuyisile Mini Square, Baakens River and many more.
