A cultural and historical tour through the old town and Küstrin Fortress
Theodor Fontane visited the mouth of the Warta in June 1862. In his stories he described the Katte tragedy in 1730. The Katte tragedy was completed at the Brandenburg bastion or in its immediate vicinity.
The Prussian king and his eldest son had become so estranged that the crown prince wanted to flee abroad. His plan failed. Before a military court in Köpenick Castle, Friedrich and his plotter von Katte were now at stake: the Katte tragedy began.
The Küstrin Castle became a prison for Friedrich. At his father's command, Friedrich was to watch the execution of his friend and plotter Hans Hermann von Katte from his window.
