The Picnic Concert is one of the main attractions of PMF, held at the Sapporo Art Park Outdoor Stage – the exact location where Leonard Bernstein gave his famous opening speech and conducted the London Symphony Orchestra in 1990. Bernstein’s vision for PMF was to contribute to world peace through music education, and we strive to manifest that vision even now. Spend a summer day amidst rustling trees, birdsong, and a classic blue Sapporo sky, all while enjoying music of unity, created by world-class artists and young musicians from countries around the world – the PMF Orchestra!
The Sapporo Art Park was opened in 1986 with the aim of creating a new forum for arts and culture in northern Japan. With this aim ever in mind, it continued to grow and evolve across many years, and is now an established symbol not only of the importance of arts and culture to the city, but of Sapporo itself, with a unique harmony of cultural creation and lush natural environment.
