Discover the beauty of Mar Lodge Estate in the Cairngorms National Park. Our qualified guide will guide you to some of the highlights of this beautiful place, the largest National Nature Reserve in the UK. Now cared for by the National Trust for Scotland, Mar Lodge Estate is made up of more than 29,000 hectares of astonishing Scottish landscape: heather-covered moorland, Caledonian pine forest, towering mountains, and the Quoich wetlands, home to wading birds and otters. The beautiful ancient pinewoods are home to red squirrels and pine martens as well as birds such as the crossbill and black grouse.
An area full of history. The current Mar Lodge was built in 1895 as a sporting retreat for Princess Louise and the Duke of Fife, Alexander Duff.
The Earl of Mar toasted the start of the 1715 Jacobite uprising at the Quoich Punchbowl. Legend states they poured a barrel of whisky into the Punchbowl.
Our qualified guides will be delighted to share their knowledge of the area with you.
