The Håkøya Lodge has everything one needs for a cosy, quiet holiday in Tromsø. In the well-equipped kitchen one can make meals to be eaten in front of the gas fireplace, and it's in a good location to get to the town or go on day trips.
Going to Tromsø always starts with a weather check, because cold winds, rain and snow are the natural weather of this region. You have to choose your clothes carefully. Going to the mountains alone can be dangerous. Local tourism companies offer good experiences. If you want to use a car, you have to rent it early. There are many options for overnight stays. City buses run well. Take time to visit local restaurants.
MAGIC PLACE we had snow a fantastic car a nice place fantastic host and great guides . a super supermarket with fresh fish and superb meat .. plenty of veg we saw the Aurora borealis twice, one even from the terrace at home.. the reindeers free and in with the SAMi people. we did few short drive around to see the fiord at day and night.. ( well we had 3 jh light a day we rest we had twice dinner out in Tromso and in Skogfiords we had super company for chasing the first night the l nordic lights called Wandering Owl ..all was magic .
I liked how public transport worked and how easy it’s been to go anywhere just with one app. Downtown is pretty and many locations are within walking distance from each other. It’s overall a little pricey, but I suppose it’s not that different from other touristy destinations.
I hiked some trails around the city, enjoyed views from the path to Sherpatrappa (although I did not make it up to the top since my ice spikes were too weak). The Tromsdalen kirke is great, as well as the Tromso cathedral and the skansen with old wooden houses. Great mixture of the old and new architecture. And, of course, the Aurora -- this time I set out on my own to catch her, and I was successful; of course you have to travel out of the city lights, to the seashore without street lights, or to Kvaloya or Sommaroy). Friendly people.
We loved Tromsø, the town is lovely to walk around, lots of good eateries, we went looking for the Northern Lights, organised trip, well worth doing, and on a trip to see the Sami people, also very interesting, and the Norwegian people were lovely. Thank you Norway, we’ll be back!
